Connections 2023
Connections 2023
Much of my work is about challenging our natural responses to situations, species and people who may seem somehow different to us. For me (and many others) spiders like these are challenging provoking feelings of fear and even disgust. “For many the idea of seeing the beauty in specimens like this is challenging. But I guess when Fiona the spider gazes into the (many) eyes of Jon the spider she at some level sees beauty and feels love, so who am I to judge?”
Framed piece comprising of seven preserved spiders with legs forming a heart.
Connections 2023 features the Acanthoscurria Ferina spider. Found commonly in Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, and French Guiana.
Many of my specimens come from historical collections, others through from breeding and conservation projects (read more here).
